- Flat plate panel systems are more versatile as they can be integrated into most standard roof types.

- Individual tubes fail by losing vacuum, rather like double glazing panels, requiring more maintenance and higher running costs. Flat plate are largely maintenance free.
- Flat plate systems are more durable and pass Part 2 of En 12975 standard, which tests for such things as hailstones. Tubes do not generally conform to this standard and can be susceptible to some adverse conditions.
